According to a BBC
news article, women all over Spain “are marking International Women's Day with an unprecedented strike
targeting gender inequality and sexual discrimination.”
10 different unions are encouraging women,
along with some of Spain’s female politicians, to “ditch” their chores for the
day and to not spend any money. As of
right now, there are “hundreds of marches” planned for today, featuring the
slogan “if we stop, the world stops.”
In South Korea’s capital Seoul, a march against
sexual abuse was being held where the marchers “wore black, waved roses, and
held banners of the #MeToo movement.”
In Ukraine, a few women journalists are starting a
Facebook campaign in response to President Petro Poroshenko’s comment to a female reporter called “I am not your darling.”
There are movements happening all over the world
today in honour of International Women’s Day, which is so inspiring.
In honour of all the women who are standing up today, all the women who believe today is important, and for this day in general, I’ve compiled a list of some basic facts about the day that should be worth noting (also note that #6 is first from the UN, then the rest is based on my opinion and how I feel)!

I love fall.
Fall is one of my favorite seasons (of course after spring, summer, and winter LOL).
But what I even love more than fall, is fall activities!
From corn mazes, to hayrides, and pumpkin patches. I love it all.
This past weekend for my fall break, I got to fly home and do all of my favorite fall activities with Alex, and it was one of my favorite fall weekends yet!
Since our time was limited, we decided to dedicate Sunday to the "fall-day".
Every year, I go to Greenstreet Gardens (basically a plant nursery and a home store) where they have an annual Fall Festival with a bunch of different, fun fall activities. Which was obviously perfect for our "fall-day".
I normally go with my mom and brother or a friend, but this year I wanted to take Alex since he had never gone (I was honestly very shocked, it was such a big part of my fall tradition).
Once we got to Greenstreet Gardens and paid for our tickets, we rode a hayride to where a big part of the Fall Festival was at.
The hayride took us through a barn that was all about Southern Maryland's culture and history.
Every year Greenstreet usually does something scary in the barn, but chose to focus on Southern Maryland which I thought was pretty cool and interesting.
After our ride through the barn and woods that were decorated as a pumpkin town (it was really cute), we finally arrived at the big part of thr Fall Festival.
The first thing Alex and I did was the cornmaze.
And the first thing that happened was that we got majorly lost.
But I did eventually end up finding our way out (but if you ask Alex, he found our way out which is obviously just not true LOL).
After navigating through the maze, we walked around looking at the Native American Teepee Greenstreet Gardens had set up, a life-size toy train and this huge rocking chair (both pictured below)!
Once we were done walking around and looking, there was a corn pit that the both of us decided to get in.
Let's just say that although we're both college students, we literally act like we're five.
We started burying eachother in the corn.
Alex ended up winning because he's just so big that there's too much to try and cover (LOL).
After we were done wallering around in the corn and being immature, Alex and I decided to head back to the main part of Greenstreet to see what else they had.
There was kind of a petting-zoo, where we got to see a pony and feed a goat. The animals were actually really cute.
And finally the last thing we did was pick out a pumpkin we later carved. This was the first time I actually got to carve a pumpkin and it was amazing! Even if it looked like I was disgusted by the pumpkin guts!
I unfortunately had to leave, but my weekend home was wonderful and I got my filling of fall.
I hope everyone has a great rest of the week!

What a piece of happiness looks like
by
the kinkaid journals
October 05, 2017
It was a quiet night.
The sky was partly cloudy, but the stars were shining through.
The Florida atmosphere kept us warm, while the cool breeze blew through the air (although the breeze kept the heat at bay).
We were laying on our backs in the sand listening to either Post Malone or some country song, while the ocean's waves crashed in the background.
That night, the three of us talked about anything and everything that came to our minds. Whether it was something about all of our long-distant relationships, school, missing home, or life here. It was talked about.
And that night is what a piece of happiness looks like.
We didn't have a care in the world.
We splashed around in the water.
We sang loud and obnoxiously to some Taylor Swift.
We laughed super annoyingly.
And yet, we didn't have a care in the world.
In that moment, we didn't care who heard us.
We didn't care who saw us.
We were living.
We were living, together.
We were living a night that was long overdue, that all three of us needed.
And it was what a piece of happiness looked like.
Staring up into the sky, laying in the sand with two of my new and closest friends, talking about whatever, singing to whoever, and just being ourselves.
The sky cleared up, allowing the starry sky to light up the beach.
The moon cast across the ocean's horizon, lighting up the waves.
And for a quick moment, amongst all of our demons, there was what looked like, a single piece of happiness.

There is nothing that has made me happier showing the person I love, the place I love.
As I mentioned in my previous post (Building My Legacy) I'm in a long-distant relationship, and that they're absolutely no fun.
However (I told you there's ALWAYS a but!!!)
They can be SO fun when you're signifigant other comes to visit wherever you are!
A few weeks ago (Around Labor Day) my signifigant other, Alex, came to visit me in St. Augustine and it was perhaps one of the best weekends ever!
And although the trip was short-lived (It was a long weekend) it was nothing less than amazing!!!
Our little excursion began semi-early Saturday morning/afternoon when Alex had finally made it to St. Augustine. He was apparently famished from his long train ride, so I took him to one of my favorite resturaunts for lunch: One Twenty-Three Burger House.
I highly recommend eating here, the prices aren't too bad (And if you're a Flagler student, you get a discount) and the burgers/milkshakes/fries are to die for!
After Alex sustained his appetite, we decided to do the Old Town Trolley Tour. This tour takes you all around St. Augustine's historical sights in about an hour to two hours, giving you a lot of information on the history behind the sights and about the town in general.
Although I probably could've given him a much better, and quicker tour, I thought it would've been fun to do it.
One of the things that I love about the Old Town Trolley Tours, is that you can get off at any stop and then get back on.
Alex and I decided to get off at the Memorial Presbyterian Church, first.
It was really pretty on the inside, and had a beautiful garden outside.
After the church, Alex and I rode the trolley until one of the stops was the Lightner Museum.
Right before the actual museum building, there is a garden-like area and it's absolutely gorgeous.
Alex and I rode the Trolley for a little bit longer until it stopped at the Castillo de San Marcos.
Fun fact: the Castillo is the oldest masonry/military fort in the continental United States.
The fort is one of my favorite places in town, and I was dying to show Alex, so this was our next stop.
By the time I was done showing Alex the fort, it was dinnertime and both of us were starving at this point.
We decided on one of my favorite places to eat for dinner: Milagro on 12th.
Milagro is a latin kitchen with the best quesadillas I've ever eaten. Milagro also has one of the best views of the Castillo and of Matanzas Bay (the waterfront St. Augustine sits on).
I also highly recommend checking this place out if you ever find yourself in St. Augustine.
By the time dinner was over, so was our night. Both of us were exhausted and decided to take it easy for the rest of the night.
This included taking a nice walk along the bayfront, which is another one of my favorite parts about St. Augustine.
The next day, also Sunday, was just a relaxing day.
For a late breakfast/early lunch we went to Cousteau's Waffle and Milkshake Bar!
Let me tell you, I got a plain ole vanilla milkshake and s'more waffles, but this was the best tasting breakfast I've ever had in my life.
After, Alex and I headed over to St. Augustine Beach (also known as Anastasia Island).
Our beach day was so nice, it wasn't too hot (like Florida normally is during this time of the year) and the ocean was just beautiful (as usual).
Unfortunately Monday came, and I had classes. Fortunately, I have morning classes so I was able to get them out of the way and spend Alex's last few hours in Florida exploring St. Augustine with him.
We first grabbed lunch at a pizza place, where I can't remember the name of, but had really good pizza.
And after lunch we just walked around.
Everything about Alex coming down was truly amazing, and I can't ever thank him enough for doing that for me. This weekend we spent together in St. Augustine will probably most likely be unforgettable.
Monday afternoon rolled around, and it was time to say goodbye. Saying goodbye was the worst part of the trip but like I mentioned above, saying goodbye this time was worth it because I got to send the weekend with someone I love, showing them the place I love.
I hope you enjoyed reading about Alex and I's weekend in St. Augustine!
Have a great rest of your day, the week is almost over (:

I know it's been about two months since my last post, and I apologize greatly for that. This past summer, however, has been insane.
I was so busy. From buying dorm stuff, hanging out with as many friends as possible, doing an online math course, traveling, and packing for college, I don't think I've had a dull moment since graduation.
Despite the minimal free time I had this past summer, Summer 2017 has hands down been my favorite summer yet. I got to explore Italy, visit the Florida Keys, and travel to California (all for the first time!). I met some amazing new people, made some unforgettable memories with friends, and I even started college.
The highlight of Summer 2017 was me starting college at the institution, Flagler College in St. Augustine, Florida.
I started classes a little over a month ago, and honestly the excitement of being in college and being an actual college student has yet to diminish.
I love college.
I mean as much as someone can love college (essays, exams, etc.).
But in all seriousness, it's not at all bad. I love my new-found freedom, I love somewhat living on my own (four roommates can make it seem as if I'm living on my own, right?), I love the town I'm living in, I love learning to become independent, and I love being a Flagler Saint.
Flagler College is probably one of the best educational institutions ever. The location is amazing (St. Augustine is beautiful & has so much to do, and besides the beach is just five minutes away!). The faculty of Flagler is so genuine, everyone wants you to succeed here. My classes, although are sometimes boring, keep me interested/engaged. And more importantly, it feels as if I belong here.
I don't doubt I made the right choice coming here.
However (There's always a but!!!)
As much as I love this place, there are, of course, a few downsides.
1. I'm thirteen hours away from home, and going home isn't as easy as I thought it'd be.
2. I already miss the seasons. Back home, it's already fall (leaves are starting to change colour, fall-y weather, etc.). We don't get much of a seasons change down in Florida.
3. Being in a long-distant relationship is no fun! But they're 100% worth it.
4. I have to create an entire new life (Which can be seen as a downside or a good thing. For me, it's a little bit of both).
5. I left everything I have ever known, I left my entire life behind me. I never thought it was going to be easy to leave, but I also never thought it was going to be as hard as it turned out to be.
Yet, I still manage to walk around the place I chose to spend the next four years of my life at and smile.
Yes, these downsides can change many things and have made me even think about going home.
But, why would I do that?
Why would I leave the place I love?
Why would I leave somewhere that I believe I belong at?
And why would I leave when I'm content being here?
Yes, I miss everything.
But, leaving, was probably one of the best things to happen to me.

well hello there!
i know it's been awhile, but i'm finally back (for now).
so much has been going on in my life since graduation and it feels like i've been going, going, and going non-stop. in all honesty, i knew i wasn't putting much effort into the kinkaid journals and have been so pre-occupied that i didn't really care!
but now i'm back and promise to be much more active.
in saying that, a while ago i did a "5 things" post where i put five of the most random/odd/exciting things that had happened recently in my life, things i was currently loving, or things that were about to happen in my life. i found it so much easier to talk about different things all at once.
so, that's what i'm going to do today.
let's get started (-:
5 things
fashion: sundresses
first things first, i'm absolutely loving sundresses right now. they're literally one of the simplest (and cutest!) pieces of clothing to have ever been made. sundresses can be worn to country concerts, out to a nice dinner, or just hanging around. they can also be super affordable (depending on where you get them at). pictured above is a black off-the-shoulder sundress and is actually one of my current favorites. this sundress falls right between my knee and the middle of my thigh, has cap sleeves with frills at the bottom, and is loose but doesn't look like a sack. i've worn this dress probably a thousand times already, lol. fun fact: i never used to like dresses, absolutely hated them, until this summer!
upcoming: college
as some of you may know, this fall i'll be moving to florida to further my education, yay! and in less than a month, i'm actually leaving for florida! since the beginning of the month, i've been busily getting myself ready for the move. i've been in contact with my roommates, buying dorm decor/supplies, choosing my classes, and anything else people do to prepare for college, i've been doing. it's been a huge bittersweet whirlwind. as i get closer to the day i leave, the whirlwind keeps growing bitter, but then i'm reminded about this wonderful new adventure i'm about to take and the whirlwind becomes sweet again.
upcoming travels: california
so i've been to about twenty-seven out of fifty states in america, but never have i ever been to the west coast! and in just a few days, i'll be on a five-hour plane ride headed to california!!! i'm so excited, i've wanted to go to california for so long, and it's even better that i get to go with my family. in just a few days i will be on a plane heading to california, and i'm so excited! i'm looking forward to hiking up to see the hollywood sign, swimming in the pacific ocean, visiting venice beach, driving down rodeo drive, and disneyland! i'll of course write one or two posts about this trip, so keep a look out!
summer book: hillbilly elegy by J.D. vance
okay, let me first start off by saying i was dreading being sent this book from my college. i hate required readings, and in all honesty this book didn't seem interest at all. now let me say, i'm glad it's a required reading. now i'm not done with the book yet, but i do 9/10 recommend picking this book up. it's quite an interesting read. i'm not telling too much about it, as i don't want to give anything away.
now: summer 2017
i'm going to be completely honest, summer 2017 has literally been the best summer i've ever had. i've traveled to a lot of cool/new/interesting places (miami, italy, the florida keys, and i'm about to travel to california), i've met an incredible person named alex, in a way i've started college (i'm taking an online course through flagler) i've made amazing and unforgettable memories with awesome people, and i'm just living my life to the absolute fullest. i know that sounds super cliché, but it's true.
well, that's it folks!
have a great thursday, you're so close to the weekend!
xoxo,
l.k
