somewhere on a gondola

may 27

well, we made it to venice!

smooth ride to the city, little bumpy once we first arrived. mom had previously scheduled a shared water taxi ride to our hotel’s dock since we couldn’t really walk it.

we 1) didn’t know where to meet the taxi because the instructions the company gave us were way too misleading and 2) we ended up missing multiple water taxis after that because we still didn’t know where to go.

total, we probably spent an hour at the train station waiting, which i absolutely can’t stand. so needless to say, i got a little frazzled. then mom got a little frazzled because i was. it was a big mess.

once we finally made it to our hotel’s dock, which isn’t even by our hotel, mom pulled out the directions the hotel had emailed to us.

they were black-and-white and only gave the street names of other streets.

oh, and the directions had a gray line from the dock to the hotel with no street names.

it was a frazzling day.

when mom and i eventually made it to the hotel and got settled, we decided to head to linner (lunch and dinner).

i started using my maps, but they decided to be even more confusing so mom just told me to “get lost”.

but i was already coming down from the previous frazzling sprout, and i was hungry so yeah.

we finally did make it to dinner, at the hard rock café: venice, and it was very good.

fun fact: this particular café is actually the smallest in italy (i’m pretty sure)

after dinner, mom and i rode a gondola!!!

it was just like the photographs: beautiful. the ride was very peaceful, wading through the water, watching beautiful venice pass us by.

once we were done, mom and i headed over to the busy part of the grand canal.

she wanted to go by the rialto bridge, so we did that. it was really cool standing there, overlooking the grand canal and venice. literally picture perfect.

now, venice is actually known for peach bellini’s so once we made it across the bridge, we found a little café to try one.

i’m pretty sure the café we went too, though, didn’t know what they were because instead of peach, they gave us strawberry. on a less confused note, it was my very first cocktail! which was very good.

mom and i strolled back and on the way stopped at the grocery store to get something to drink. we ended up getting some coconut cream gelato! some i surprisingly could eat!

we had a nice, relaxed walk back but i’m exhausted.

tomorrow mom and i are taking a 4 ½ hour excursion (there’s expedia’s favorite word again, lol) to murano, burano, and torcello.

ciao!

hope you enjoyed reading about my first day in venice!

in all honesty, venice was probably my favorite place in italy. i don't know if it was the water, the colors, the peacefulness, i don't know. but i do know that venice was probably one of my favorite parts about italy.

venice, italy is such a beautiful city, and i'm so glad i got to see it.

have a great rest of your day!!! (-:

xoxo,
