...do as romans do

may 28

sadly, today was my last day in rome.

mom and i had to wake up really early this morning though, because we had a good morning rome: sunrise city tour.

it started at 5:30 am.

now, imagine how i felt.

at first, i actually thought we were going to get murdered. the tour guide and driver seemed very sketchy and so was the transportation they drove us around in. it was obviously turned out fine since ya know, i’m still here.

our first stop on the tour was an overlook of the rome & it was absolutely breathtaking. seeing the city from above, waking up, and the sun rising over the horizon—truly unforgettable.
as we went throughout the city, it was amazing seeing the streets not crowded and it was amazing to just be there without feeling stressed, frazzled, or anything else!

one of the next stops was the roman forum. our tour guide took us to a spot where it gave us the perfect panoramic view of the ruins. for ruins, it was absolutely gorgeous (i say that about a lot of things don’t i?!).

now the tour includes breakfast, so guess where mom and i ate.

IN FRONT OF THE COLOSSEUM.
it was truly cool. i mean, how many people can say they had a cappuccino and croissant in front of the frikin colosseum?!

one of our last stops was at this sculpture fountain where one of the sculpted men was shielding his face from a building that stood in front of him.

fun fact: the sculptor purposefully did that because he didn’t like the architect of the building.
when our tour ended, the city had awoken and was already full of life.

as much as i liked this tour, we did end up going to see some sights we saw the previous day (like the pantheon, the vatican, spanish steps, etc.), but i think it was worth it. the places weren’t crowded and our tour guide told us things we hadn’t learned from other guides.

once our tour guide dropped us back off at our hotel, mom and i changed and then headed back over to the colosseum. our tour guide didn’t take us inside, so mom bought our own tickets.

let me start off by saying, the colosseum is awesome and is probably one of my favorite parts of italy. it was really interesting to see where all the gladiators fought and what not.

i do regret not taking a tour of the colosseum because we weren’t allowed downstairs—point in case, if you ever find yourself at the colosseum, be sure to take a tour!

when we left there, mom and i stopped for lunch at a pizzeria, where the four-cheese pizza consisted of four types of cheeses being plopped randomly all over the pizza. when our waiter brought it out, i was very confused. like there was literally a blob of bleu cheese in the middle.
me at lunch
disregarding the interesting lunch mom and i ate, we decided to head home and relax. but mom’s map somehow managed to find the longest way home.

luckily for her, there were tons of shops on the way back. actually, mom ended up leaving my camera in one of stores when she sat the bag it was inside down.

don’t worry, i got it back.

one of the stores we went in had a lot of trinket, cute souvenir stuff, so mom went ahead and bought a lot of presents for our family there. and although she did not get jipped, she claimed she got jipped lol.

we finally made it back to the hotel where i took a long nap, but when i woke up all refreshed, mom made me get up and go back out.

hey, i was exhausted.

we went to get a light dinner, and the restaurant service was so rude. i got a panini and wanted to take it back so i stuffed it into my purse because our waiter was so rude and wouldn’t let us take it. i mean, we paid for it, i wanted it! lol

mom of course wanted to go shop some more so we did that, and on the way back we stopped at a little café and got a cappuccino (pretty sure i’m addicted to them now lol).

the café had put little chocolate hearts on top of them, and it was so cute. but they took it away from me when they learned i had allergies.

after
we got back a few minutes ago and i’m so tired. mom’s in the shower and i’m trying to not fall asleep as i write this.

sad today was my last day in rome ): but tomorrow we arrive in venice (: our last stop ):

ciao!
